WESTNEY RHIND
(b. 1994, Auckland, New Zealand)
Bachelor of Design (Photography), Massey University

Westney’s photographic practice is inspired by the abstract form of nature and the ability to suspend the viewer's belief through photographic processes, resulting in an output that blurs the line between photography and other creative mediums. She finds inspiration in abstract forms not only in relation to photography but also through her practice of visual communication, print and layout design.

Recent Projects include: Palette (solo), Twig & Arrow studio, Wellington, NZ (2016); Looking For Trouble, Newtown, Wellington, NZ (2016)

Palette Statement
An aerial photography exhibition

Palette, presents a poetic look at the earth’s surface, a response to a unique beauty that is often forgotten. Westney has employed aerial photography of New Zealand coastal and inland environments with the intention to reveal their inherent beauty. The photographic series holds a unique aesthetic that separates the work from classic landscape photography, speaking to aspects of the sublime in which nature creates a sense of astonishment within the viewer. Together the series employs the ability to suspend the viewer’s belief by playing with ambiguous scale and the viewers perception of what they are looking at.
