Kate Bedford's practice is an ongoing exploration of consciousness, with a conversation between both the internal and external world playing out in the works. The natural landscape has always been a source of inspiration with the Romantic Sublime influencing her practice. The Sublime is a way of thinking about today's post-industrial context; with technology, capitalism and global warming having a overwhelming impact on the environment as well as human consciousness. The materials are considered in how they refer to these ideas. The use of aluminium and interference paint are combined with canvas and oil paint to address both the historical and contemporary concerns surrounding painting.

Recent Projects include: Finalist in the Molly Morpeth Canaday Award, Whakatane Museum, Whakatane, NZ (2017); Volcanic Hazards of Auckland, YES Collective, Auckland, NZ (2015); Back Alley Tease launch, Auckland, NZ (2015); 12 x 12 Members Show, Depot Artspace, Auckland, NZ (2015); Art-Throng, Showcasing emerging artists from Asia, Pacific and the Middle East (2015); Contemporary Art Curator, artist directory (2015)
